Wikipedia describes a learning management system as "software for delivering, tracking and managing training." But learning management systems are becoming so much more than that. Gone are the days when LMSs were simple database applications for tracking training or, as eLearning expert Elliott Masie and others have described, "vending machines" for delivering courses. Learning management systems have evolved over their short history in many ways.
